Tamborine Station Farm Tours

“Albert River Wines” proudly invites you to experience the new “Australiana Tour” offering a variety of authentic “true blue” activities! Tours happen at 2pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday plus every day during Queensland School Holidays.

Billy Tea & Damper

Join our Tour Guides as they re-enact the traditional practice of Billy Tea & Damper, which was once the ritual of our Stockman Drovers in the 1800 to 1900’s. The Aussie Stockman used to drove cattle and horses for days on end, and without much room in their saddlebags, flour, salt & tea leaves were the scarce items they would afford themselves on the long journeys. However over the years, damper evolved into being prepared with beer, meaning the mixture rose more easily and tasted better. Guests can participate in preparing the Damper, which involves mixing the flour, beer & salt by hand and having a go at “spinning” the billycan, to ensure the tea leaves brew a strong mix of tea. With the opportunity for guests to taste the “damper” with homemade Aussie jam and sample the tea from authentic camp teacups, this really is an exciting True Blue Aussie experience not to miss!

Grape Stomping in the Barrels

In bare-feet or gumboots, guests have the chance to make grape juice by stomping grapes in the barrels, as we mimic the ancient way of making wine. Let the competition heat up, as guests race to extract the most juice from the grapes in a 2 minute grape stomping frenzy. Bystanders look out! As it is often known for juice to splash when enthusiastic stompers really go hard!

Boomerang Throwing

For thousands of years indigenous Australians (Aborigines) hunted their food with rudimentary weapons of Boomerangs and Spears. In this activity, our guests get the chance to throw an authentic carved boomerang and try their luck at having it return! This is no easy feat and soon it is learnt how hard this skill is to master! And we advise that sometimes you may need to duck for cover when stray boomerangs take flight!

Whip Cracking

Another of our traditional Stockmen’s tools-of-trade, the stock whip was a necessary means to keep large amounts of sheep, cattle & horses under control. A little bit dangerous, but with instruction from our Tour Guides, it is quite possible to learn how to crack a stock whip within a couple of goes… some guests even

Garterbelts & Gasoline Nostalgia Festival

$

For the third time held on Tamborine Mountain – in 2013, the Festival was held on Friday May 3rd to Sunday May 5th 2013

UPDATE regarding the 2013 event, submitted in April 2013 by Organiser Paul Biagini:

Greetings Folks
Things are hotting up here at the office as we head full steam into organising Garterbelts & Gasoline 2013
The 5th annual GarterBelts & Gasoline Nostalgia Festival, will again be a full blown three day and night celebration of 1950s culture featuring hot rods, custom cars, live rockabilly, jump blues and Alt country bands from both Australia and overseas, international VIP’s, one of Australia’s finest traditional pinup contests, vintage fashion parades, shopping tour, kustom culture art exhibition, nostalgia movies in an old world theatre and one of Australia’s only and easily largest public road vintage soap box derby races. The weekend will again rock picturesque Tamborine Mountain on the Gold Coast hinterland and will include four separate venues, lots to see and do, wineries and vintage shops, take it easy or party hard, its your choice, there will again be VIP camping for vintage caravans and campers and camping for modern campers and vans also, lots of other accommodation on offer also but be quick! All of this just half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Queensland Labour Day Long Weekend
It is official, the Queensland Government has scrapped the Qld Labour Day long weekend as of this year. What this means is the Monday of GarterBelts & Gasoline 2013 will not be a Qld public holiday as it has been in the past, a bit inconvenient but no point complaining, it is what it is.
The festival will continue on as normal with the exemption of the art show which will close on Sunday night, instead of Monday, there will not be a Champagne Brunch on the Monday which did prove popular this year and the traditional Sunday Night Wind Down will be reconfigured with more details to come.

GarterBelts & Gasoline 2013 1/2 ?
With the moving of the Qld Labour Day long weekend being moved to the first weekend in October, this means that the Monday public holiday will align with NSW and Victoria, this has led me to make what seems like a obvious decision.
GarterBelts & Gasoline 2014 will move to the first weekend

Craft Extravaganza

“Craft Extravaganza” is an amazing Craft Fair featuring handmade crafts of exceptional quality made by 50 local and South East Queensland craft persons with a huge variety of work on display and all available for purchase at reasonable prices.  The Fair has been running twice a year for 10 years and has a reputation of showcasing some of the best handmade craft in the area.

“Craft Extravaganza” raises funds for the Tamborine Mountain Rural Fire Brigade.  In 2010 the Fire Brigade replaced two old second hand fire trucks with two brand new state of the art appliances, added a twin-cab 4WD utility to the fleet and improved the training facilities no end.

As a result they do not have an immediate requirement for major funds so have generously suggested that the time was opportune to invite other deserving local community organizations to participate in the Craft Extravaganza and share in the proceeds.

With this in mind we are pleased to advise that JC EPIDEMIC, a mountain youth organisation has been operating the “Crafty Café” for the Mothers Day Show.

JC EPIDEMIC is a not for profit Christian Youth organisation who stage extreme sports events in order to capture the attention of Australia’s young people and bring motivational and encouraging words into their lives.  Through drug and alcohol free events JC EPIDEMIC draws in crowds of young people who can experience something exciting and potentially life changing.  They promote that Australia’s youth need not hit rock bottom before coming to the realization that there is an alternative way of living.

The shows are held at the Vonda Youngman Community Centre, Main St. North Tamborine, open from 10am to 4pm.  They are four day events, with the first day being the most popular with our regular visitors who snap up the best bargains.

The Craft Extravaganza is held twice per year and the dates for 2013 ares:

Craft Extravaganza Mother’s Day Fair – 9th May to 12th May 2013

Craft Extravaganza Christmas Fair – 10th to 13th October 2013

This year’s annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk was held across Australia on Sunday 19th of May 2013.  Celebrating it’s 21th birthday in 2014, it will again be a great fun day for all animal lovers on Mount Tamborine and all across Australia!  Thousands of people all around the Country follow the RSPCA’s invitation to join like-minded people and their pets for a big day out!

With the active and committed help of the local Tamborine Mountain MPW team and local businesses, the Million Paws Walk raised this year over $10,000 for the RSPCA. Helping the RSPCA to raise much needed funds is the main reason for everyone to grab their pet (it’s not just for dogs!) and “walk their talk”.

Anyone can participate – young and old, families and friends, or neighbours, teams and corporate teams.

This year, perfect weather on the day was a welcome change from the otherwise quite wet weather conditions encountered on Tamborine Mountain over the previous few weeks.  Over 400 dogs (well, and their owners, of course!) gathered on Geissmann Oval, with the excitement building for the kick-off at 10am.

And if someone didn’t have a dog, it didn’t seem to matter – many people just went along for the fun incl. entertainment, displays, stalls, giveaways and a host of other activities. All sorts of doggy merchandise was available on the day including t-shirts, caps, dog coats and much more.

The North Tamborine Million Paws Walk 2014 will again offer two different routes, both returning to Geissmann Oval. There is a very leisurely 2.5 km circuit, but for the more ambitious a 5km loop will be staked out, taking in Curtis Falls, Eagle Heights, Long Road and Curtis Road.

Many of the dogs participating in the walk had come from the RSPCA and AWL (Animal Welfare League) shelters after being either abandoned or surrendered by their previous “owners”.
